Short answer: The Strand Lakeside Resort at 7343 Okanagan Landing Road is a waterfront condo community on Okanagan Lake in Vernon's Okanagan Landing neighbourhood. It has a private sandy beach with a protected swimming area, a seasonal heated pool, a year-round hot tub, a private marina and heated underground parking. It's a lock-and-leave, resort-style place to live: summers on the water, winter weekends at SilverStar, and very little maintenance to worry about.
I currently live at The Strand, so this post is less of a sales pitch and more of what I'd tell a friend who asked what it's like.
The basics
- Address: 7343 Okanagan Landing Road, Vernon, BC V1H 2J6
- Built: 2008
- Homes: about 105, from one-bedroom condos to two-storey townhomes and penthouse lofts
- Strata: KAS3310, professionally managed
- Amenities: private beach, seasonal heated pool, year-round hot tub, private marina (51 moorage spots), landscaped courtyard with pergolas and gas fire pits, heated secure underground parking, storage
Summer: the reason people buy here
In summer The Strand feels like a resort. Mornings start with a paddle on flat water before the boats come out. Afternoons are split between the groomed beach (the swimming area is roped off and protected from boat traffic) and the heated pool in the courtyard. Evenings are for the fire pits, a glass of Okanagan wine, and sunsets over the west side of the lake.
If you have a slip in the private marina, your boat is a couple of minutes' walk from your door. The Vernon Yacht Club and Paddlewheel Park are nearby, and the lake is big enough for full days of exploring.
Fall and spring: the best-kept secret
Many owners will tell you September and October are the best months here. The water is still warm, the summer crowds are gone, and the courtyard trees turn gold and red. Spring brings the beach clean-up, gardens coming back to life and the first boats going in.
Winter: lake below, mountain above
There's a line on my Strand website I stand behind: 0 minutes from the lake, and about 30 minutes up the hill until you're skiing at SilverStar.
Winter at The Strand is quiet and easy. The heated underground parkade means no scraping ice, snow removal is handled by the strata, and the hot tub runs all year, which is hard to beat after a ski day. Plenty of owners lock up and head south for a few weeks without having to worry about the place.
Location and everyday convenience
- About 10 minutes to Vernon's shopping, restaurants and services
- About 40 minutes to Kelowna International Airport (YLW)
- Close to Okanagan Landing Elementary
- Easy access to Kalamalka Lake, Ellison Provincial Park, golf courses, wineries and trails
Okanagan Landing is one of Vernon's most sought-after waterfront neighbourhoods. It feels like a lake community while still being close to town.
Who The Strand suits best
In my experience, The Strand is a great fit for:
- Retirees and semi-retirees who want waterfront living without the upkeep of a lakefront house
- Part-time owners and snowbirds who value lock-and-leave security
- Boaters who want private moorage steps from home (homes with slips are especially sought after)
- Skiers and outdoor lovers who want the lake in summer and SilverStar in winter
- Buyers moving from Alberta or the Lower Mainland who want an Okanagan lifestyle at a condo price
It may be a less natural fit if you have a large dog (the pet bylaw limits dogs to about 10 kg), need a lot of space for a workshop or RV, or are counting on year-round Airbnb income from a second home (see my post on rental rules).
What homes cost at The Strand
Prices vary a lot with size, view and location in the complex. One-bedroom condos are at the entry level, and larger townhomes and waterfront penthouse lofts are at the top. For up-to-date numbers, see the sold homes history and current listings on my Strand website.
