Short answer: The Okanagan Rail Trail is a 50 km multi-use trail built on a former CN rail line, running from Coldstream to Kelowna through Lake Country. With a gentle grade of about 1.3%, it's easy for walkers, runners and cyclists. From Vernon, you can connect by a multi-use path through Polson Park and along Kalamalka Lake Road to the trailhead on College Way in Coldstream.

Where to start from Vernon
Follow the multi-use path from the city centre through Polson Park and along Kalamalka Lake Road to the College Way trailhead in Coldstream. From there, the trail heads south along the shore of Kalamalka Lake.
Best sections
The stretch along Kalamalka Lake is a favourite, with water views and plenty of spots to stop for a swim in summer. Continue south toward Lake Country and Wood Lake for a longer ride.
Tips
- Start early on summer days. There's little shade in places.
- Bring water and sun protection.
- Share the trail: walkers, cyclists and runners all use it.
- Combine a ride with a Lake Country winery stop, and plan your ride home.
